Aof March 2, 2023, the Meghalaya election results are being announced live. The National People’s Party (NPP) led by Conrad Sangma, in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is leading in the early trends. The NPP-BJP alliance is currently leading in 27 out of the 60 seats, while the Indian National Congress, led by Mukul Sangma, is leading in 17 seats. Other parties and independent candidates are leading in the remaining seats. The final results are yet to be declared, and the counting process is ongoing.


The Meghalaya state election was held on February 27, 2023, with a voter turnout of around 72%. The state has a total of 60 assembly seats, and the party or coalition that secures a majority of 31 seats will form the government.

The NPP-BJP alliance is looking to retain power in the state, while the Congress is hoping to make a comeback. The regional parties, including the United Democratic Party and the People’s Democratic Front, are also in the fray.

The Meghalaya state election is being closely watched as it is seen as a test for the ruling NPP-BJP alliance’s popularity in the northeast region. The outcome of the election will also have implications for the 2024 general election.
