Suffering from HIATUS HERNIA??

LAPAROSCOPIC HERNIOPLASTY FOR LARGE HIATUS HERNIA

Hiatus hernia is the protrusion of the upper part of stomach into the thorax through a tear or weakness in the diaphragm. Laparoscopic hiatal hernia repair is a complex a but effective and safe surgical approach due to its minimal invasive nature, intraoperative view and operative angle. However, it is still a kind of difficult surgery in the field of hernia surgery that requires a good understanding of the surrounding anatomy of gastro-esophageal junction and diaphragm. Knowledge of precise surgical procedure is of prime importance. Sufficient dissection and exposure of the operating field, application of mesh and fundoplication are some key issues in these operations. Difficulty in achieving tension-free closure and unacceptably high recurrence rates with a laparoscopic approach has prompted the application of mesh reinforcement to improve hiatal closure durability.
